Job Description: The Photographer and Social Media Liason for the ASU School of Art is a key position in promotions for the Herberger School of Art and Design. The photographer for the galleries takes photos and creates short videos of ASU openings as well as other special events related to the school of art and posts them onto our on-line platforms. This incudes creating short promotional videos for ASU Live(wire) with audio mixing to be posted on Youtube and shooting images for pomotion across a number of different social media platforms including facebook, instagram, and twitter. For examples of past images and video promotion go to: http://exhibitionprogramming.com/social-media-photographer. The photographer for the galleries also documents installed shows. This can be done at anytime during regular gallery hours throughout the week starting on the second day that the exhibition is open. These images are posted on our social media pages and school of art website. The images will be added to already existing albums on facebook from opening night.
Essential Duties: Documenting opening receptions and making promotional videos for ASU Live(wire) at all Harry Wood Gallery and Gallery 100 on Tuesday nights from 6-8pm and Step Gallery every other Friday from 6-9pm. Images for all shows are to be edited and uploaded to the Facebook pages as an album with the same title of the show within 48 to 72 hours of the opening reception. Every image uploaded should be labeled with the name of the show (Name of the Show) or the name of the show and the name of the artist if it is a solo show (Show Title:Artist Name). Each individual image of an artwork is to be labeled with the following: Artist Name, Title of the work, Date, Medium, and Dimensions, or Openingnight@GalleryName if it is a opening night reception shot. All images should include #'s such as #ASUGalleries, #ASUStepGallery, #ASUHarryWoodGallery, #ASUGallery100, #ShowTitle, etc. The the galleries photographer should also document each and every work at Harry Wood Gallery and Step Gallery individually as well as take installation shots. Images for all galleries are to be edited and uploaded to the Facebook pages in an already existing album as well as in a dropbox file of the same name. This gives the photographer 2 full weeks to document and edit images from each show, and they should be posted on time, everytime. Every installation shot should be uploaded with the name of the show (Name of the Show) or the name of the show and the name of the artist if it is a solo show (Show Title:Artist Name). Each individual image of an artwork is to be labeled with the following: Artist Name, Title of the work, Date, Medium, and Dimensions. Desired Qualifications: Images shot by the Galleries Photographer should look inspiring, exciting, full of patrons, and be cropped to give the best possible impression of opening night festivities. The Galleries Photographer should stay until they “get the shots” that they need and begin editing them at the opening. This allows them the opportunity to capture more images throughout the night as they work. As soon as the images are ready to post they should be shown or e-mailed to the Galleries T.A/R.A., for review to post. After approved, the Galleries Photographer can post directly to the Galleries websites on Facebook. Images shot by the Galleries Photographer should be professional quality documentation of individual works and installation shots. They should be color corrected and edited to look thier very best. As soon as the images are ready to post they should be e-mailed to the Galleries T.A/R.A., and cc'd to the Galleries director for review to post. After approved, the Galleries Photographer can post directly to the Galleries websites on Facebook and upload the images in dropbox.
Working Environment: The Galleries Photographer works in a dynamic and ever changing environment, full of patrons, events, happenings, original artworks, students, faculty, family and friends. Their job is to make documenting the School of Art exhibitions and special events a fun experience for all invovled. They should be good at working with the general public and they must be careful when working in an environment full of activity and singular works of art. They must be able to travel between Tempe and Phoenix (Grant Street Studios) campuses. The Galleries Photographer works independently, and must be self-motivated.
